Hey up Dave,
Shogun sports are great, they are based on the same chassis as the L200, and I love my l200, only thing is they also love fuel, and if your used to your nice fast sports car you may find yourself sitting with it permanently in 3rd gear (responds well in 3rd, when you have a nob on yea tail) and if you get on a nice country road you'll be slapping it into 4wd because it corners better. all use fuel like its going out of fashion. But plus side it has a nice elevated driving position, works great off road (when required) truck also means you must have nice chunkie tyres, the new one don't look right with poncy road tyres on.
Best thing to do is have a drive out in one.... not sure what the new style drives like.
Another one to look at slightley smaller, but quicker pick up and a nice 6th gear is a nissian Xtrail, as the new one has just come out there's some good deal on last years style with all the bells and whistles, my pa has one which i drive now and then and its a good size, believe its better on fuel.
Also to think about is repair cost... just had to have a new rear leaf spring on mine which would set you back 192 quid just for the part. tyres cost a fair bit too, but they last ok on the front lol as mi truck is rear wheel drive it spins allot, prices for tyres are all over place, i got yoko geolanders at 92quid a pop.... was an expensive day... damn mot.
Hope that helps, Jap cars/4x4 tend not to go wrong, had a 4x4 honda hrv (joymachine lol) never had problem, just small things, probably why you see asian taxi drivers all in jap cars... they won't fork out.
